Students Interview The Teacher...
In this interview, we asked the students to interview their teacher. After an initial spate of shyness, the class soon began to ask really great questions. How well did they do on this assignment? And how well did their teacher answer their questions? We’ll let you be the judge…
Q&A...
Teacher Ryan: Alright everyone, we’re going to do an activity that doesn’t require a pencil or a book. You get to interview me.
Kenneth: How old are you? Twenty-three, right?
Teacher Ryan: Yes. So, you paid attention? Good.
Owen: When is your birthday?
Teacher Ryan: It’s right before Christmas. It’s on December 19th.
Class: I remember now. You brought in candy!
Alwin: What country do you want to travel to the most?
Teacher Ryan: I’d like to go to Greece.
Class: Where’s that?
Teacher Ryan points at the map while the students try to find it.
Alwin and Kenneth: Oh, it’s by Italy!
Teacher Ryan: Yes, very close.
Lily: Have you worked anywhere else?
Teacher Ryan: I’ve worked at many places. I’ve worked at a grocery store, department store, two factories, a library and a school in America.
Owen: Wow.
Teacher Ryan: I had many jobs in college and high school.
Sammi: What’s your favorite color?
Teacher Ryan: Red.
Class: Aha! You’re wearing red today! We knew it was your favorite!
Teacher Ryan: I usually wear blue though. How did you know?
Kenneth: I don’t know. Your eyes are green today! Is it the red shirt?
Teacher Ryan: Well, I hope my eyes don’t become red when I wear red. They just change from blue to green.
Elaine: What country do you like the best?
Teacher Ryan: I like the U.S. I like Taiwan too, but America is my home.
Lily: What languages do you speak?
Teacher Ryan: I speak English and Japanese. Well, I forget a lot of the Japanese though.
Kenneth: Do you speak Chinese?
Teacher Ryan: That is for me to know and for you never to find out.
Class debates whether or not Teacher Ryan can actually speak Chinese.
Owen and Sammi: Why do you have McDonald’s and Milk Tea so much?
Teacher Ryan: McDonald’s is so close to the school, so I eat it a lot, but I drink Milk Tea because it tastes good. I cannot find it in America, so I have to enjoy it while I’m here.
Alwin: What day do you like the best?
Teacher Ryan: I like vacation days the best.
Class: What?
Teacher Ryan: Any day that I can stay at home or do whatever I want.
Kenneth: Me too. Where do you live?
Teacher Ryan: Why? Do you want to visit me? I live in the Shida Night Market.
Elaine: Do you have a pet?
Teacher Ryan: No, I want a dog though. My mom has my old dog. She is 14 years old, so she’s pretty old for a dog.
Class: Ooooh. What’s her name?
Teacher Ryan: Greta. She was raised by the Amish. Do you know who the Amish are?
The class discusses who the Amish are with one another.
Owen: Do you listen to the radio?
Teacher Ryan: Yes, I listen to the radio on the internet. I like to listen to a specific radio station from America.
Class: Which one?
Teacher Ryan: It’s called Air 1.
Owen/Kenneth/Alwin: Will Teacher Cassie make us some more cookies? They’re yummy.
Teacher Ryan: Only if Kenneth is good.
Kenneth: She didn’t say that!
Teacher Ryan: Yes.
Kenneth: We’ll never get cookies then.
The class laughs.
Teacher Ryan: You can be good. I’m sure you’ll get cookies again. She likes to bake too much. Anyway, that brings us to the end of the interview. Good job, you guys. Those were great questions!
