We asked some of our current teachers why they enjoy working at Big Byte. Here are the top ten reasons given.
1. Stable work environment: Big Byte is a well-established school which has been providing English teaching services in Taipei city for more than ten years. We have branches across the city. Schools are managed and run professionally. The education of our students is our first priority. Our schools offer a stable environment to our students, the parents of our students, and to our teachers.
2. Planned Curriculum: There is a well-defined curriculum with set goals for each teaching week. But also, teachers have a lot of creative freedom in how to implement the curriculum.
3. Small class sizes: Classes are restricted to a maximum size of 12 students per class per teacher, enabling the teacher to provide more focused attention on his or her students.
4. Teaching material: There are libraries at each of the branches as well as at the main office, offering books and magazines that are suitable for the levels that are taught. There is also a new, Wikipedia-style database where teachers share worksheets and ideas that they’ve designed. The database contains hundreds of useful worksheets and ideas.
5. All-English speaking environment: All students speak English inside and outside of their classes. We find that this enables students to improve their English ability much more quickly and in a more thorough manner.
6. Support: As a teacher, you can rely on the staff (administration and support staff) at the school to provide you with support on a daily basis. The Chinese staff provide a valuable communication link between the English teachers and the parents of their students. This means that you can get a deeper insight into your students, helping you to do your job better.
7. Training: All new teachers receive comprehensive training before they start teaching. Additional training sessions are held on a regular basis to keep teachers improving their skills. Teachers can consult with TAD (our Teaching Affairs Department) at any time for ideas and suggestions on how to teach or assistance in dealing with problems that they might encounter.
8. All our branches are close together and are conveniently located in the centre of the city. (You’ll be in the middle of all the action in Taipei city.) No branch schools are stuck in hard-to-reach periphery areas of the city. All schools are adjacent to major lines of public transport (buses, MRT, etc.)
9. Bonuses and incentives: There are bonuses for attendance and for marking quizzes and assignments on time.
10. Block hours: Your hours are not fragmented all over the place. Elementary level teachers generally teach from 13:30 in the afternoon until 18:30 in the evening, Monday through Friday. Preschool teachers teach from 9:00 in the morning to 16:30 in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. Additional classes are also available if you are interested in teaching other levels or tutor classes. (Other levels include our Junior High program, which runs in the evenings, and our University program, which happens at times which are suited to the university students’ schedules).
